Avoiding torn bags and distorted packages

Tears during insertion usually need a check of bag size, product edges and handling method. Distortion after heat processing requires a review of film clearance and the approved process settings. Separate defects that arise before sealing from those that arise during shrinking. Keep failed bags and the product dimensions for the supplier to review.

Observe the point where a tear first appears. If it happens during insertion, check the opening clearance and projecting edges. If it appears after closing or heating, retain a sample from before that stage to help isolate the cause.

Check whether the product or insert has changed since the bag size was approved. A new handle, larger label or different grouped arrangement can make the old format unsuitable. Measure the complete packed shape rather than the main body alone.

For distorted finished packs, compare product position and film clearance before reviewing process settings with the equipment supplier. Change one factor at a time and inspect the contents as well as the bag. Keep the successful sample with the revised instruction.

Confirm your specification

Specify width, thickness, roll length or net material weight, core size, colour, packing, quantity and destination. Final dimensions and performance are confirmed by the sample and order.

Product details are based on the GUDE catalogue and supplied photographs; operating guidance is general and must be verified on your equipment.
